FINCHLEY ART SOCIETY
The Finchley Art Society was founded in February 1949 by Paul Smyth, teacher and artist. The objectives were, and still are:
- To promote interest in the visual arts in the Borough
- To hold periodic exhibitions of members’ work
- To hold regular meetings for the purpose of criticism, discussion, demonstration and practical work
- To arrange sketching outings and such other relevant to the interests of the Society
FAS exists to encourage local artists at all levels to practise and develop their skills. There is no formal tuition. However, there are many experienced members who will advise anyone who would like assistance.
As the Society celebrates its 70th Anniversary there are numerous activities planned to mark its continued success. These include children’s workshops, gallery visits, a painting challenge, a critique evening and Art Fair.
One member says “I love my Wednesday painting sessions and my work has really improved. I even sold a few at our Art Fair, which is very satisfying”.
Weekly painting groups are on Monday evenings at Trinity Church Centre, Nether St N12 7NN and Wednesday afternoons at St Mary’s Parish Hall, Hendon Lane N3 1TS.
Membership is only £25 per yearwith £2 payable at each painting session.
Or you can ‘drop in’ for £7 per session if you prefer not to be a full member.
Painting and drawing develop skills in a safe and sociable environment.
It is very therapeutic, relaxing and satisfying.
